80070490 windows could not search for new updates

Hi,

I keep getting this error code each time I want to update.
Defender is getting is updates no problem but not windows.

I run Vista Ultimate 64 bit.

I tried to use my Vista DVD to repair windows but it will not let me since
the version I am running is newer than the version on my DVD.

Help!!!

A repair install is the usual solution of SFC /Scannow doesn't work.

I cant do an upgrade since my dvd version of vista is older than the one that
is installed (because of the upgrades).

When I get to the option "upgrade"; the installer program tells me that
upgrade has been disabled and the only option available is a new install.

That's most likely caused because you have installed SP1, you must uninstall
SP1 to do the upgrade and then reinstall the updates.
