Just loaded a fresh copy of Messenger on clean installed home PC and cannot
login - troubleshooter ticks all but the last box (wireless)

I know my username/password is correct, I have a hardware firewall that is
configured correctly, Firewall is (off) on XP, (my laptop works on the same
Wireless network OK), I obviously can get on the internet, I have seen
previous posts about error 80072745, relating to Microsoft servers, but
latest fix is dated Oct 06 and doesnt work for me.

Is it a Server problem? is there a current fix?

Hi,

Apols for delay,

Checked both my laptop and desktop - Windows LIVE messenger has replaced
Windows messenger -I no nonger have the Icon or program listing for Windows
Messenger ( I am on XP -SP2) - just tried to reload via Windows update and I
get looped round the update site without seeing a download...just passes me
back to SP2 -which I already have - then goes to the Windows "Live" Messenger
page !!!

how did you manage to remove it?.. lol

windows messenger is an integral part of windows, and cannot be removed
even if you install windows live messenger...
Even if you go to the add remove programs >add-remove window components (it
has messenger there) that only deletes the icon. Go there and check and see
if you have it...

see screenshot>>> http://img289.imageshack.us/img289/5870/444bz8.jpg

Normally you should be able to find it here >>>

C:\Program Files\Messenger

I hope this helps....

Hi,

Yes the component list showed as "installed" but needed to uninstall -
re-install before the icon re-appeared.

However, result is neither messenger or live messenger is letting me in. As
I have not made any changes to my Interent connections and it was working
fine last week sounds like an external problem.

I have trawled some other similar problems and have the following copy of a
message from a J Kay as below:

************************************************** **

Greetings,

This is a server-based error that is affecting some accounts right now -- if
you have
multiple accounts, others will probably be able to sign in. There isn't
much you can do
besides try it again later.

The Microsoft status is showing no problems, but it is holiday time!!

Looks like a wait until next working day in 2007, thanks for your interest
and help.
