Hi all,

Every time I try to install Vista SP1 I get the error 800B0100.

Is there any way around this?

0x800B0100 is listed in the table on this page as part of
> a list of errors that users may receive when they try to install a Windows Vista update


Description of the CheckSUR update for Windows Vista and for Windows
Vista for x64-based systems

Is KB947281 being offered either via Windows or Automatic updates ?
I'm assuming that Vista SP1 came down via Windows update, correct ?

Please read this first:
Learn how to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/win...6f2021033.mspx

Then read KB947821 and make the necessary registry edits.
Download KB947821 and *save* it.
When the download completes, close the browser and any other open programs.
Install KB924871 by *right* clicking it and choose 'Run as administrator'
It will run automatically after it's installation
When it's finished, *restart* the system.

CheckSUR will create a log file in

WINDOWS\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

Either post the CheckSUR.log or ...

Download the stand-alone installation package, save it, and *completely*
disable the installed antivirus software prior to installing it:

32 Bit [x86] Vista SP1

Now try to install SP1 once more.
If the installation fails once more:

Unlimited installation and compatibility support is available at no
charge until March 18, 2009.

Your CheckSUR logfile indicates that you are missing the following updates:

905866
929123
931213

Visit support.microsoft.com/KB/<insert number here>

Download the respective file for your version of Vista (32/64bit), and
attempt to install it on your system. Best of luck!

As you can see, it found a corrupt file. I tried to reinstall the patch KB929916 but I get the message "This update doesn't apply to your system."

So, that error maps to no signature in the file. Looks like it might be
staged improperly. So, you can use PKGMGR on that package and remove it
manually.

Also, I would check your updates list and see if that update is there. It
might be as easy as removing and reinstalling that update.

So, how do you know which came first: the error or the service pack?
If the error came first perhaps you should uninstall the service pack
before trying to resolve the error?

BTW you may find more knowledgeable help with Vista specific
symptoms in a Vista specific newsgroup. Cross-posting to one
for convenience.
