Since Jan 2009 I ve had sparratic internet. I checked my security software
and to find out it cant update itself it gets an error. I cannot go to any
sites pertaining to a solution as it will say unable to connect. I tried the
solutions offered in previous errors of this nature but am unableto find a
solution. Windows defender seems everything is unable to connect and update
itself. If anyone knows what this could be and knows a site where I could dl
the tool it would be awesome. I cant even set my HOME PAGE in IE EXPLORER
because its been greyed out. I tried the shortcut key but it cant find the
path. So my homepageis something else. I feel if i can fix the update problem
and then the hompage problem im a ona good role ot recouvery. Another note I
heard microsoft is coming out with another anti-virus program when will it be
availible? Anways Really needing help with this I would hate to have to

Hello James,

When posting to this Newsgяoup it is requested that you at least provide us
with details of the operating system you are using including Service Pack
level.
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375>

Run SFC /SCANNOW
System File Checker (SFC) checks that all Vista files are where they should
be and that they are uncorrupted.
WHY: You want to ensure that core operating system files have not been
damaged or modified.
How to Repair and Verify the Integrity of Vista System
Files with System File Checker : SFC /SCANNOW

The above is assuming the OS is Windows Vista

Do a full scan with MalwaяeBytes and SUPERAntiSpywaяe.

Hi James,

I knew there was a piece of that question that I forgot to get to...

Consider going to the security portal

<www.microsoft.com/security/portal>

and downloading the 32-bit definitions for Windows Defender to the desktop,
then double-click them to apply.

See if that both brings you up to date, and perhaps improves on the behavior
in future.

Good luck

Chances are that you're seeing the affects of a hijackware infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/ma...e/default.mspx

2. Run this online scan (in safe mode w/networking, if need be):
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run additional checks for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis
log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use (in
conjuction with some other utilities). HijackThis will NOT fix anything on
its own, but it will help you to both identify and remove any
hijackware/spyware with assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachi...php?board=10.0,
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30, or another appropriate forum for review
by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
