I have SP2 installed, but I get this error when trying to install new updates.
And thanks to our wonderful IT department at school, I only can visit this
site until I get the updates, which I can't. Any help would be much
appreciated.

Got this from JMP74 and it worked for me on XP

Click start-> run
type services.msc then press enter
Look for the Automatic Updates Service, right click it and choose to stop
Click start->run
type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution then press enter
Open the DataStorage folder and delete its contents.
Click start->run
type services.msc
right click the Automatic Update Service and choose to start
Now try running the Updates again.

If you are unsure, cut and paste the contents of the datastorage folderto
another location so that you can copy them back if need be. I can't guarantee
this will work for everyone but its worth a shot.

This worked like a charm for me.... I have SP 2 installed, but kept getting
the subject error code with subsequent update attempts - all of them failing.
This process solved the problem and all updates were downloaded and
installed perfectly with Windows Update. Thanks Ex-Raptor!

Note that the folder is named DataStore and not DataStorage...
