if your computer download an update, but there is not a error number.check
the view installation history.. you might get an error 80246008.
if that is the case. you might have an error 2147024891 after trying to the
BIT

start/run: services.msc
double click on: Background Intelligent Transfer Service
change it to manual, and then click start ..if you get 2147024891 error..

Sorry that did not work forme. When my PC (XP SP2) was joined to the domain
(W2K3 Server + SP1) the BITS service would not start. Also I could not do any
windows updates - always failed with 80246008 error. I took the PC off the
domain and the windows update worked agained and the BITS service started
fine. I looked on our DC and discovered the 'Default Domain policy' had
entries for 'Manual' start of BITS server and also permissions. My first test
was to disable this part of the policy. I re-join my PC back to the domain
and the BITS service once agained worked along with Windows Update. Now I
need to work what exactly caused the BITS service to stop working when
controlled by Group Policy. Any feedback is appreciated.

Stellar. Amazing how much stuff I had to read and sift through and all it
ended up being was a simple delete task.
