Rather than guess, what is your operating system, Vista or Windows XP?

What fixes have you already tried?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, it's Vista Home Premium, I tried the KB solution at
Microsoft, also tried the register.bat fix in this newsgroup.

Try the Bits Repair Tool and see if that helps -

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
(Vista 32 bit/x86 version)
or
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
(Vista 64 bit/x64 version)

Thought I had responded but it's not showing up - trying again -

Give the Bits Repair Tool a try-

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
(Vista 32 bit/x86 version)

or

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
(Vista 64 bit/x64 version)

I'm haveing trouble downloading updates on my laptop. The first erro
code was 80240016. I did the command promt to restart it. Then
recieved another error code 80246008. I tried to download BITs but
recieved a pop-up window saying that the program is not needed at thi
time and it did not download. Then when I try to download the update
again it goes back to 80240016. ????

80240016 This issue occurs if a Windows Update client or a Microsoft
Update client cannot access the user token.
It can also occur when another update is already installing.

For 80246008, see:
You may receive an error message that contains the "0x8DDD0018" code or
the "0x80246008" code when you try to download updates from the
Microsoft Windows Update Web site or from the Microsoft Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910337

If there's nothing in that KB that will resolve the error, then there's
also the possibility that there is malware resident in the system.
Or, the installed security software (antivirus/security suite) is acting
malware-like, thus preventing BITS from doing it's "thing".

To rule out malware, suggest you download, *save*, and then install
Malwarebytes Anti-malware - http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Click the " Download free version " button.
*Save* mbam-setup.exe
Once the download completes close *all* open browsers and programs.
Now run mbam-setup.exe by *right clicking mbam-setup.exe, choose 'Run as
administrator', follow the prompts, and allow it to update during it's
installation opoeration.
Once the installation completes, MBAM should open. If not, open it.
Be sure the Quick scan option is marked and then click the Scan button.
When the scan completes, click the Show results button.
Ensure anything detected is checked and then click the Remove selected
button.
Restart the system if requested to.

IF anything was detected please post the MBAM scan log.
It should open when the scan is done. If not, it's in

Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Roaming\Malwarebytes\ Malwarebytes'
Anti-Malware\Logs
