Hi

Trying to install the latest windows autoupdate - but the update fails
to install. So I read the newsgroups and downloaded 834707
individually, but when I try to install it it says branches.inf not
found (yet this file is perfectly OK in the expanded files).
Interestingly enough, my other XP partition (on the C drive) installed
OK, but this (wholly seperate) partition, doesn't! Maybe it doesn't
like D: :-)

The 834707 log shows me this:

1.963: 2004/10/21 09:45:08.421 (local)

Any ideas?

Most likely fixed by removing the Read-Only flag on the branches.inf
file in the %windir%\inf folder (a hidden folder).

To remove the flag, you can run the following command from Start/Run:

attrib %windir%\inf\branches.inf -r

(run the command exactly as typed above, with %'s and all).
