887472 link takes me elsewhere

I just installed XP Home SP2 (because PA Bear kept nagging me).
Now I'm updating. Updates tells me I need 887472. When I click on
the link, it takes me to 890261 (MS05-009).

MS05-009 tells me the update applies to XP Home SP1 only, and
does not apply to XP Home SP2 with WMP 9.

I'm confused. I'll break my machine if I install the wrong
update. Help please?

Is Windows Update or Automatic Updates offering you MS05-009 (which BTW was released, pulled and then re-released)?

If an update does not apply to your Windows version, it won't install.

More components are being updated than just Media Player.

In fact KB887472 doesn't even mention Media Player...

What version of Windows Messenger do you have?

One might think that there will be another KB article pointing to the
same TechNet bulletin relating to a vulernability in MSN Messenger
but so far I haven't been able to find one.
