Windows Update is "offering" me this update again, as a Critical
Update. I have installed it successfully two other times, April 26 and
May 31. Why again and again?? I didn't mind validating my windows
periodically to receive various downloads, but these critical updates
are different.

Since the May 31 install of 605474 I've had to look at a star-like icon
in my toolbar informing me that SP1 support will end October 10. OK,
and when I have no choice I will upgrade to SP2 but I don't appreciate
knowing in advance that the result of the critical update would be a
nag notice about my legitimate version of windows not being the latest
service pack.

What's with this newest release? Is it really neccessary?

Thanks-
Vickie

The new WGA update corrects some issues. It is safe to install.

But it will not be uninstallable like the one the OP currently has
installed without resorting to a clean install. To uninstall that one,
MS gives the following KB:

Thank you. After reading the KB92191 info I verified that I do have a
version listed as still uninstallable, should I want to remove it. I'm
going to skip this latest offering, since I am not having any problems
with it, besides the star icon in the tray reminding me about Oct 10
date for SP1 support end. I feel I have verified my version of windows
enough.

Thank you-
Vickie

Freudi's uninstaller also seems to work on the new version,
which isn't as vile as the test, and has a much better EULA.
It could be actually uninstallable in Vista or XPsp3 if it's
buried in the kernel instead of stuck on with masking tape.
That may be more work than they're inclined to perform.
