905474 Locks up during install

The 905474 install file fails during the install and locks my PC up. If I
force-reboot I am back to the taskbar prompt telling me to install the update
again.

If I validate my copy online is says validated ok but still that bloody
taskbar icon tells me to upadate again and when I do it locks up.

I have also tried all of this:

Locate the file: C:\ Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Windows Genuine Advantage\data\data.dat and delete it. Reboot, send your
browser to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ ; and click "Validate Windows".

If that doesn't work please try the following:

Open internet explorer, click "tools" then "manage add-ons" then find the
Windows Genuine Advantage ActiveX control and put it as "ENABLE". If the
setting is only allowed to be changed by administrators, then you must go to
your C:\windows\system32 and DELETE the LegitCheckControl.dll file. Then go
to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/dow...displaylang=en ;
and revalidate. That will reload the DLL file correctly. Reboot your computer
after this.

Or try the direct 905474 download, then install:

Passing the buck to a censored web based, never will be on Google,
forum, eh? Why didn't MS create a newsgroup instead of a web site where

Does the PC have an nVidia nForce chipset on the motherboard?

If so, please try updating to the latest nVidia nForce IDE drivers.

Hi Alias, no other option but to pass the buck to the creators of the WGA
Notification Tool. Unfortunately at this stage that is all there is, the
forum. At least it's better than nothing. I also had problems installing this
update and had to do a manual install.
At least the OP could peruse the forum to see if his problem has already
been discussed.
