Dunno. Two vague symptom descriptions got two vague suggestions. No feedback one way or the other doesn't
strike me as surprising.
I would have followed up on a yes to suggestion one with the
further suggestion to use RegMon to find out the difference
between:
control sysdm.cpl
and
control wuaucpl.cpl
regarding wuau (e.g. use cpl as a input filter and wuau as the highlight
criterion)
FWIW I have just done that and found it is
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{5F327514-6C5E-4d60-8F16-D07FA08A78ED}
Description: Auto Update Property Sheet Extension
I don't know how that CLSID would be initialized,
probably by reinstalling the whole service, as Torgeir documents
occasionally (IIRC search for posts by him which contain au.inf).
It sure looks like au.inf should do something like that but I can't
see exactly how.
BTW I suppose I should mention that I had to install XPsp2RTM
on top of XPsp2RC2 because there was no uninstall for some reason.
E.g., that CLSID I gave as an example might not be the one a true
XPsp2RTM would show.
