Absurdly long file copy across network in Vista...

Perhaps someone might suggest a solution to this problem.

I have turned off Remote Differential Compression. So no need to suggest
that. It won't help me.

I am simply attempting to copy a file from my PC to a co-location in a
different subnet using SMB (e.g. "\\remote-pc\share\folder").

I can bring up a virtual PC running XP on this Vista machine, and the file
will copy within a minute.

However, within Vista, I get a dialog that stays up for over ten minutes
(not an exaggeration, I counted) that says, "Calculating time remaining...".
Eventually, if I wait long enough (maybe eat lunch, bring peace to the Middle
East, find a way to divide by zero, or imagine a triangle with the sum of its
interior angles totally over 180 degrees), the file will copy.

Mind you, my boss (who runs Vista as well) doesn't seem to have this
problem. It works as normal. So I am lead to believe somehow, the problem
can be resolved. Unfortunately, I don't even know where to look. Any ideas?

Trey

This is a common problem. There was heavy focus on this problem in the Vista
Service Pack 1 beta and they have made great progress.

SP1 is due to be released in mid March.
