access denied for sp2 installation

hi! i downloaded the sp2 for windows xp2. i also closed the anti virus and
and used ad aware to remove any pops etc. the download for sp2 was
successful. however, the installation would always stop half way through and
would always give the error message as access denied. i am the only user for
this computer and am always logged in as the computer administrator. please
advice what should be done for this. thanks!
