Access is Denied upgrading to XP SP3

Executing the upgrade from the administrator account.
All other programs shut down.

Upgrade runs fine .. checks system, backs up, installs new files.
When it goes to upgrade the registry I get "access is denied".

Rebooted computer.

Ran RegCure to clean up registry.
Now registry has no problems known to RegCure.

Rebooted computer.

Reran SP3 upgrade.
Still giving me "access is denied" when trying to update registry.

I have not had any other errors adding or removing software from my system.
Registry seems to be fine as far as I can tell.
The administrator should have all access to registry and not be denied
updates.

Any ideas?

Not really a Media Center question, you might get more/better help in an XP
General forum...

However can you do all other Admin functions?

Verified that the admin account actually has admin privileges?

Can you open the Registry and modify otherwise?

Scanned the system for malware/Trojans
