Access a namespace

Hi all;

Suppose my domain name is Contoso.com. What is the differences between the
following to addresses when I access the Marketing namespace:

\\contoso.com\Marketing

\\Contoso\Marketing

Is this relates to using DNS to resolve contos to its IP address?

If I use \\contoso\Marketing, I use NetBIOS to resolve Contoso?
