access to xp sp2 denied

when downloading service pack 2 i get the error message "access denied"
before installation is complete. I have followed the steps advised with
verbose logging to locate the registry file with the access issue, but the
file it locates with the problem is not present within the registry at
regedit. The file location is
HKLM\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main\feature
control\feature_disable_mk_protocol
How can i remedy this and download sp2 to completion instead of only a
partial download??

Tried all that still says registry error location doesn't exist. Anyone have
any other ideas?
