0x8024001D -2145124323 WU_E_INVALID_UPDATE
an update had bogus metadata

Clear out your temporary internet files.

Remove WU downloads from the temporary folder:-

Stop the Automatic Updates service

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Delete the contents of the Download folder
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Click OK.
Open the Download folder.
Delete all contents of the Download folder.
Close the window.

Start the Automatic Updates service
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

By deleting the contents of the Download folder - you have removed any downloaded
updates.

If that doesn't work then you'll need to rename the softwaredistribution folder:

Renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder: a. Click Start, click Run, type
%systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.

Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

I know this sounds stupid but you say "click on Start>Run and key in
services.msc". Where am I suppose to do this? I can go in Microsoft
Windows Update and just click off Automatic Updates but there is no Start or
Run and no place to type in services.msc.

This is another facility on your computer; it's not on the Windows Update
page nor even in Internet Explorer. Click the Start button in the lower left
corner of your screen (the left end of your Taskbar). This should raise the
"Start Menu" above the Start button, along the left edge of youur screen.
Then click the icon labeled "Run . . ." at or near the bottom of that menu.
That will give you a dialogue box with one field preceded by the label
"Open:" Enter "services.msc" in that field and click OK on that dialogue
box. Then continue with the instructions your were following.

While I prefer abbreviated instructions, they present some difficulties.
One time, it took me forever to find the "any" key. ;-)

Kind regards,
Michael K
