I just ran a windows update, and after it was done, my account was
gone. I have only one account on this computer, and it was replaced by
one called Administrator. Fortunately, after a brief anxiety attack, I
ran a system restore. But now I'm leery of running this udpate.

I found only one posting in the newsgroup of a similar problem. It was
from 2004, and there were no responses. Can anyone explain why this
would happen?

XP Professional version 5.1 SP2

Thanks,

Jerry

My Windows 2000 Pro "user settings" were reverted to an early "out of the box"
environment by the 9/14 update.

The bug occurred:

1. 9/14 update automatically downloaded to my system.
2. I did NOT run install prior to shutting down for thenight.
3. This morning, upon startup, Windows advised that another app
controlled my user space, and Windows waould start me up with a sub-set
of functionality.

How do I restore my useer settings to 9/14 condition?
