I have an "-Acer Aspire 5100-", I've owned it for a two years.
I am having some problems with it, three types to be sure:

- RAM
- Graphics
- Overall Performance

My Computer specs are:

AMD Turion 64 x2

ATI Xpress 1100

4GB DDR2 RAM

Windows 32-bit Vista Premium

CD/DVD Drive: Currently Unvailable ( broken due to an acer related
problem, I personally dislike acer now...)

--------------
-Problem One-
--------------
I have severe lag while playing games, Online or Offline.
my fps goes from 70-100 to 1-3.
I've Cleaned the insides, and updated the software.

--------------
-Problem Two-
--------------
I've installed 4 GB of DDR2 Ram, It shows that I have 2.25Gb (which
does Sh*t all)

---------------
-Problem Three-
---------------
My overall performance is horrible, I can't do any thing without lag.
It took me 2 hours to write this because of lag.

If you are interested in game response times, you should try running with
AERO off.
Next the ATI Xpress 1100 may not be the best choice for games.
Finally installing 4Ghz memory and running 32bit windows, added to the
typical Video usage of system Ram on a laptop might produce a
reading of less than 3Ghz. Or, it might be that part of the added memory is
not working or not recognized. If the memory is not working properly,
you might be getting a hitin responsiveness. Have you run any of the memory
testers?
Do you have Norton installed?

When were the video drivers last updated. I have a two year old HP laptop
(Vista Ultimate, 32bit) using an Nvidia chipset that started out painfully
slow when it came to games. Recent video driver and windows updates
actually made a big improvement in video response times.

The problem that was mentioned about the 4GB (not Ghz) ram was because you
are using 32-bit windows, and for 32-bit windows you can use maximum 3GB
ram, and if you want more, you need to jump to the next level with the
64-bit windows, that is - any way - faster than windows 32-bit due to the
architecture of the processer.

Hello again:

I want to say that the processer is actually ... a horse-power boom. But the
graphics card is what is making the low rating ... and if you are a gamer.
You shouldn't consider less that GeForce 8400M GS or ATI Express 3200.

A clarification: The 32-bit limit is *not* exactly 3GB.

All 32-bit client versions of Windows (not just Vista/XP) have a 4GB
address space. That's the theoretical upper limit beyond which you can
not go.

But you can't use the entire 4GB of address space. Even though you
have a 4GB address space, you can only use *around* 3.1GB of RAM.
That's because some of that space is used by hardware and is not
available to the operating system and applications. The amount you can
use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but can
range from as little as 2GB to as much as 3.5GB. It's usually around
3.1GB.

Note that the hardware is using the address *space*, not the actual
RAM itself. The rest of the RAM goes unused because there is no
address space to map it too.
