I down loaded the Acronis 11 backup software for my Western Digital 1TB
external hard drive. I have an internal drive with Windows. 750GB. And a 1TB
internal drive with several partitions in it. I did a custom install. Could
someone who is familiar with backups please walk me through making a boot
disc, and explain how to back up to me. Thank you. Ginny

Acronis will make the boot disk for you. Open it, choose the option.

Use Acronis "Help" to learn how to do your imaging.

If you start Acronis, you will find the wizards simple to follow. - its all
there
In your earlier post you refer to a 50gb limitation, I dont know where you
think you found this info, or what exactly you mean. I have found no
limitation in cloning or restoring.
PS if your intention is to use your external for backing up to, I'm not sure
why you thought it neccessary to do a Custom Installation.

I didn't want the google toolbar and extras like that. I am trying to do
a backup disc with the wizard but since I don't totally understand this, I
am not doing it right because the "next" button is grayed out. Someone else
set up my system for me and I don't know what everything is. Acronis opened
what it thought would be the boot info but it evidently wasn't. Ginny

Note that this newsgroup covers issues concerning the various versions of the MS
Vista operating system.

Acronis is not part of the Vista operating system.

Post your questions to the Acronis support group.

If you downloaded a trial or demo version you may be limited to the FAQ section
of the Acronis website.

If you purchased the product and registered it, you are entitled to product
support from the manufacturer.

If you have the Business/Ultimate/Enterprise edition of Vista, you can use
the `Complete PC Backup and Restore` feature available in these editions by
going to the `Backup and Restore Center` in Start>All Programs>Maintenance.

Both regular and irregular versions of Ultimate have CompletePC Backup and
work fine with Acronis as well.

Very cute, Colin. I meant it was not a "Business/Ultimate/Enterprise"
edition. ...but thank you for that.
Can you tell me how I can tell which drives are which , on my machine. My
external drive was 'S' and I had a 8 GB partition for Temp folders. 'D' has
changed to what I expect is this WD external drive.
