Stay away from this product. I bought Acronis True Image 10 Home from
tigerdirect.ca and installed it on my Vista 64-bit PC. I took backups
regularly - once a week. I never bothered to verify the integrity of the
backups. When I did, the product always reported that the backups were
corrupt. By this time my 30 days for getting a refund from TigerDirect had
passed. So, I contacted Acronis who told me to upgrade to a new build that I
can download from their website. Same problem with the new build - corrupt
backups. Acronis said they couldn't give me a refund since I didn't buy the
product from them. I contacted TigerDirect who told me that they can't give
me a refund either since the 30 days have passed. The product is useless to
me now.

Another problem with this product is that it doesn't play well with Vista.
Once you start a backup task, you can't change it's priority. You always get
an error message saying you don't have enough privileges to do this.

And I received an email from Acronis a couple of days ago saying I can buy
the new version 11 at 40% off. Some consolation.

Lousy product. Lousy service from the manufacturer and retailer.

Used the product many times. Never had a problem. Restored my Vista 64 bit
system flawlessly,in a dual boot environment. Problems must be related to
your system

Have you tried verifying the backups?

How about changing the priority of the backup task? This always gives me
problems.

Or perhaps you work for Acronis.

Acronis TrueImage HOME 10.0 has never failed me. I experiment a lot and
sometimes restore images on a daily basis. I have never had a failure.

Did you ever actually try to restore a backup or some portion of a backup?

I agree, this should not have happened on validation and there may be some
glitch or issue with Vista 64 but I'm running it on Vista 32 and have not
had a problem either with validation or restoring.

I haven't tried to change priority and I wouldn't try doing so or making any
other change once the process has started any more than I would do so with a
standard backup utility as I wouldn't want to risk the integrity of the
backup.

As you can see from the second line in my signature, I take backup very
serious but as I said, I've not had an issue with my images. Is there
anything else you might be running, cleanup utilities or some such thing
that, while they might not corrupt the file but might have made system
changes that caused problems for the application?

Well,JJ I did better than test my backups I used them very successfully
restoring my Vista 64 Partition. Just a thought but perhaps your hard drive
needs to be looked at for errors.

True Image 10 works for many so the task should be to determine what is
different in your computer that prevents proper operation.
Do you have any 3rd party disk monitoring/modifying programs?

Start with a hard drive diagnostics from the manufacturer of your hard
drive.

Then try another hard drive in your computer and install Windows vista.
Use True image and see if it works.
Install your essential hardware and software periodically using True Image.
At the point it fails should indicate the cause.

Have to disagree because I have used it with XP, Vista and Vista 64 and
actually used the backups quite a few times with no trouble. I have some
friends in the PC support Business (They rely on getting it right for
their jobs) and they will not use anything else, if the product was
performing so badly they would be out of a job.

This leads me to ask if there is possibly a hardware problem with your
machine or a drive? Perhaps even with the RAM since Acronis does seem to
need as much RAM as it can get. How did the install go? 64 bit Vista
requires a signed driver for Acronis, did you get any complaints there
but install it anyway?

You also said > Once you start a backup task, you can't change it's
priority. You always get
>> an error message saying you don't have enough privileges to do this.

Doing anything that might generate an error message during a backup is
(In my opinion) a risky thing to do with ANY software.

I also think there may be something damaged in the OS itself, I have
personally found Acronis support excellent and their support staff very
competent (You actually talk to a technician not some part time student)
so if they gave you some option to download a revised version of
something I think you'd be well advised to try it. What you might be
seeing is the result of some other defect and not a problem with Acronis
per se.
