yes it will backup to an ext USB drive. And yes it is a cloning program. You
will get an exact clone of your entire drive. If your HD ever fails or gets
corrupted just install the clone in it's place and you are back up and
running. It's not for making backups of just selected files. I prefer to
clone vs backup....you may not.
