OS=vista ultimate sp1
Backup=True image home 11

I have used true image a number of times & have had good results.I recently
tried backing up& had 2 blue screen crashes.I had installed virtual pc just
before this and was wondering if true image can't backup a hdd with virtual
pc installed or is it Vista ?If it is because of vpc how am I going to
backup my hdd without installing vpc ?
All help/info appreciated

Did you try making the backup while all VirtualPC VMs are shut down? The
..vhd files are large, and wherever the incremental changes to those are
stored, are constantly changing. This might be causing True Image to have
difficulty in making a copy of a snapshot in time, if you know what I mean.
The same would apply for other large files that are constantly changing,
like database files.

I had the same problem. I have win 2000 with several VM's in it plus it dual
boots with Linux.
Tried several backup programs includu\ing True image with poor results.
Finally found one that works.
Go to http://filegets.com/info/easeus-disk-copy.html and get disc copy 2.3.
It's free

Yeah, I have used that, and I found it great for getting data off a failing
hard drive, as the drive caused Windows to crash. But it's a disk cloning
tool, and not a backup or imaging program.

yes it will backup to an ext USB drive. And yes it is a cloning program. You
will get an exact clone of your entire drive. If your HD ever fails or gets
corrupted just install the clone in it's place and you are back up and
running. It's not for making backups of just selected files. I prefer to
clone vs backup....you may not.

It should be pointed out that the HD should be removed from the
external USB case and put into the PC as an internal HD in order to
boot from it.
