"Action Canceled" when viewing help topics

Chm files are imbedded in our applications, which are accessed on the server.
When I open the file (which I can do), There's an "Action Canceled" message
where the topics should be. I can see the TOC, and the Index, and those work
- I just can't view the pages themselves.

I just installed XP updates today, so I'm guessing that's what's causing
this - how do I fix it?

Hi,

I assume KB896358 got installed.

If you uninstall KB896358 (MS05-026), does it start to work again?

MS05-026: A vulnerability in HTML Help could allow remote code execution
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896358/

If it was KB890175 (MS05-001) that was installed (KB896358 supersedes
KB890175 though), that one could have done the damage:

MS05-001: Vulnerability in HTML Help could allow code execution
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890175/

Some interesting stuff in here as well:

After you install security update 896358, content that should be
displayed in a different frame is displayed in the frame that contains
the HTML Help ActiveX control

Yes, that's one of the updates, and yes, when I remove it the thing works
again. However, I'm not supposed to remove it.

I've looked at the articles & they seem to focus on the server, but the
problem clearly happened due to a change on my pc?

Hi! Do you have a suggestion if I have mapped a local intranet UNC path
to a drive?
If I use Method 2, then I can access the help file if I go via full UNC
path to the help file but I cant if I try to access it via mapped
drive.

What should be done to access a help file on a mapped network drive?

Hi,

You need to have the server in the UNC path defined as "Local intranet
zone"

To see what zone you now have have for the path, in Explorer, select
"Status Bar" under the View menu. If it says "Internet", you will need
to add your server to the "Local intranet zone" in Internet Explorer.
