Activate Key before any updates????

Hi, Im working for a small computer company and we sell pcs with windows.
Yesterday we noticed that on XP, the windows updates was needing us to
activate the key before any update can be downloaded. My question is how is
this useful to a smalll company like ours and does that mean we have to
activate all our customers machine before we send them out? Or is there a
different website for reatailers to download the updates? Is this on all of
Microsoft OS's? or just XP?

Any help will be apprecited.

The Automatic Updates feature is not affected by the WGA validation check.
Therefore, you can use the Automatic Updates feature to make sure that you
receive critical Windows updates.
