First off let me state I have a MSDN Universal license and have used Virtual
PC to create XP virtual machines to test with.

I decided to upgrade one of my virtual machines to SP2 and after reboot it
says it needs to activate the software. I found that odd as I had used the
key generated with my MSDN license to activate when I installed initially.
Activation failed and then I got to the screen to enter the product key and
when I enter my key it says its an incorrect product key.

Now I have seen some info on searches talking about Microsoft locking out
SP2 to hacked keys but it said there that SP2 wouldn't even install in those
cases so I know thats not the problem. Anyone else seen had this happen???

Doug;
Not entirely correct.
There are still CD keys blocked from installing the Service packs.

Did you try calling for activation?

I know there are keys blocked from installing the packs...but the pack
installed ok.

Well when I type the key in it says the product key is incorrect like its
not for that version of software.

Doesn't matter to me anyway now as I already created a new virual machine
and disk installed xp and then sp2 installed fine so not sure what happened
when I installed on the other.

Just thought I'd let it be known that this could come up after it had gone
through installation. When it restarted I got the screen asking about
automatic updates and then it gave me the normal login screen and then when
I tried to log in got the activation problem. Not worth my time trying to
figure out why.
