I installed Vista on my PC and during the installation, I checked the box to
activate automatically when Vista first boots. Later as I was on the
internet, I noticed that at times the computer froze for approximately 60-90
seconds and then came back. I then reloaded Vista. When I went to activate, I
received a message that the product key was already in use. The configuration
of my PC has not been changes from the original installation. I've tried to
change the product code several times, and I still receive the same message.
I purchased my PC from Dell and received my upgrade to Vista last month with
the product code. I purchaed two others from Dell and when I down loaded
Vista in both of the, there we no problem. How do I resolve this problem?

Thanks: Chas

Hello,

I'm not an expert when it comes to activation. I had a similar problem,
activation over internet did not work for me for one day, but suddenly, it
worked again perfectly.
What if you tried activating over telephone?

Sorry if I couldn't help you.

Greetings,
P. Di Stolfo

Thanks for the reply. Apparently using the phone methed does not work at all.
I understand that MS is coming out with a service pack in August. I guess if
we all wait that long maybe they will resolve the problem

Well, yes. It's in use by you, because of your initial Activation.

And you will continue to do so, until you follow the on-screen
instructions to activate via telephone.

Follow the on-screen instructions to activate by telephone.

Why do you say that? Did you speak with an activation operator?

Where did you hear that? It's very unlikely that there would be any
need for a Service Pack so early.

You haven't actually identified any sort of problem to be resolved, you
know.

Bruce:

You didn't have to get on the defense. Why didn't I call to activate ---if
you read some on the answers you'd understand. People kept saying that the
phone activation was not working. I didn't want to spend the time on a phone
trying to activate Vista. However, I took your advice, dialed the 866 number,
and lo and behold I ended up talking to a human being. Other responses stated
they could not get a human on the line. Well I'm a believer, it worked and
not I'm activated. It only took a little over three minutes.

Thanks Bruce, you are the man!!!!!

The difference is that some people were trying to call Microsoft Tech
Support instead of the phone activation number.

Most people will complain a dozen times about one bad experience and hardly
say a word if everything goes as expected.

Thanks for reporting back with your success!
