This question might be asked many times but I need help setup AD network in
VPC. I am trying to setup AD network. My current settings:
1. Machine 1: Windows Server 2003 (SRV-1) as DC, DNS and DHCP with IP
192.168.0.5, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and the DNS is pointing to
192.168.0.5. Also conifgured the DNS forwarder to the DNS address from the
host adapter. The default gateway is 192.168.0.6 (the member server IP
address)
This machine has only one NIC set to Local Only.
2. Machine 2: Windows Server 2003 (SRV-2) as a member server with IP address
192.168.6, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and no default gateway.
I set this one with two NIC cards, one Local Only and the second card from
the host network.
3. Machine 3, Windows XP Pro (XP-1), member of the domain and getting the IP
configuration automatically. The adapter is set to Local only.

All the machine with this configuration can access the Internet. The only
problem is that I have at this time, from the member server with the two NIC
cards I cannot ping the other machine by its names but I can ping by the ip
address. When I ping SRV-1 from SRV-2 by the name it time out and it is
resolving the IP address to different IP. I can ping SRV-2 from the other
machine with no problem by name or IP address. Is there is any configuration
I am missing here? Thanks for the help.

I forgot to mention that on the second server (member server) I configured
Routing and Remote access on the second adapter as NAT.

I'm no expert to AD network.

However the setup seem odd in terms of gateway point to member server and
why vm for the master server srv1 with only DC, DHCP, DNS and no other
domain controller?
in the simplisitic real world the gateway would be some sort of switch

take a look at a 2k3/8 server VHD you may be able to download from ms and
see how they configure the network. you may also want to take advantage of
ms offering online labs.

actually this is wrong forum to ask AD

also if use Nat on the machine one, and machine 3 is physical outside the
virtual realm, you may encounter problem for machine 3 accessing machine 1
