Installed AS4.2 on client PC connected to SBS2003 server. Connected PPC to
USB cradle and followed instruction to connect active sync to exchange.
Active sync can't find server. I have checked the FQDN and the user
name/password and the domain name are correct but it won't connect. have also
tried turning of SSL.
We have SBS2003 standard with two NIC's and an ADSL router with firewall.
I have checked mobile access is enabled and can connect to the server with a
mobile phone using OMA. Please can anyone help or does anyone have any
suggestions.

According to the ActiveSync troubleshooting, this is a "network configuration
or connectivity issue" but don't believe it. It has to do with the Directory
Security settings on the virtual directories in IIS. I am trying to find the
correct solution, but in the meantime check out:

I was able to get it working but it seems like require SSL should be checked
on the Exchange Vdir in IIS and it won't work unless it's unchecked.

I have checked require SSL on the OMA Vdir and re-checked "enable
forms-based authentication" on the Exchange Virtual Server and I'm still
getting email on the phones automatically.

I have just discovered that if I use the IP address my router has assigned to
the server (192.168.0.2) I am able to set up an activesync connection with my
PPC. This is ok if I want to sync up with exchange using my cradle but I am
not able to connect externally using a wi-fi connection while i'm out of the
office. This looks like a networking problem.
Remote web workplace works fine from a remote location so is this a firewall
issue in the router?
