Active Sync 4.5 connecting but no sync

Active sync error states that it cannot verify the version of ActiveSync or a
firewall is blocking the port. I have downloaded active sync 4.5 again and I
have removed the firewall package altogether, stopped windows firewall as
Microsoft suggests. Active sync will still not work. Can anyone give me any
suggestions please?
