Active Sync deleting emails from server?

We have a peer to peer network with several computers running WinXP. One is
connected to a Dell Axim X50 by a cradle. That computer is running Active
Sync. The Axim is not synced to get the email from Outlook, only contacts
and the calendar. It also doesn't connect to the ISP, just syncs with the
one computer. All the computers pick up the email from one account, so they
are set to "leave mail on server". All except one that deletes it after 4
days. That also happens to be the one with the Axim connected.

Since we added the Axim to our office the emails on the server are getting
deleted prematurely. I have changed the password for that account to make
sure someone else isn't downloading them, and have tried various methods to
see when it gets deleted off of the server. After setting the Axim in it's
cradle, the email doesn't get deleted right away. But it will be deleted
within the hour. It syncs with the computer and I am not exactly sure when
the email is deleted. The email doesn't get deleted when the Axim is not in
it's cradle connected to the computer.

Does anyone know why the Active Sync would cause the computer to delete the
emails? This has been driving me crazy for two days.

The email isn't being deleted from the computer with the Axim, before it is
deleted off of the server.

We just upgraded to Active Sync 3.8 today, didn't help.

Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

Jim

Hi,
If you configured the Axim to recieve the e-mail directly from the ISP there
is an option to specify how many days of e-mail to download. Also, if an
e-mail is deleted on the Axim it will be deleted on the server regardless of
how many days are downloaded.
