Active sync want to connect to the internet I don't

Windows XP Professional with SP2 installed.

My Dell A5 PDA with Active Sync 3.7.1 when put in the
cradle automatically connects to the dial up internet
connection. If I cancel the connection during dialing,
the Active Sync will not connect to the PC. I have to let
the connection complete. Then it will synchronize with
the PC. All the settings on the PDA are not set to sync
with any server or web site.

I have removed the program and reinstalled it and there
is no change to its workings. This also affects the
Internet Explorer. It changes the Tools/
Options/Connection to dial a connection when I click the
Internet Explorer short cut. Even though the "Tools/
Options/Connection" is still set at "Never Dial a
Connection" I have to re-click it and set it so it will
not dial a connection. Before no matter what the Internet
Explorer Tools/ Options/Connection was set at, it dialed
a connection when I clicked the short cut. I made the
following change by entering this into the registry:

Disable the "Log on using dial-up connection" Check Box -
Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. Value Name:
RasDisable, Data Type: REG_SZ (String
Value), Value Data: (0 = restriction disabled, 1 =
restriction enabled).
Create a new String value, or modify the
existing value, called 'RasDisable' and edit the value
according to the
settings below. Exit your registry, you may
need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to
take effect.

This at least keeps the Internet Explorer from dialing a
connection. But I ave to reset it everytime I use the
Active Sync.

Hi,
ActiveSync uses TCP/IP so it must be authorized to connect to the internet
or you will not be able to use it.

Also, ActiveSync is using authentication to confirm the connectivity via
CHAP. I suspect this is causing the problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong, it sounds like after reading
alot of these messages that with this new Windows SP2
installed I must be connected to the internet for the PDA
to sync to the PC. When in the past with Windows SP1 it
did not. For sure I did not connect to the internet when
I connected the PDA to the PC.

And as for the "CHAP" not sure what that is or where it
is or what to do about it.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi,
CHAP is the authentication method that Microsoft uses via PPP to
authenticate the Pocket PC. There is no alternative.

Hi, I have this same problem? Is there no way to stop ActiveSync from trying
to connect to the internet everytime I sync? I don't have AdvantGo or use a
pop account on my PPC, I don't even sync my emails...

Hi,
You can set the network connection in ActiveSync on the PC to Work. Then it
won't try to dial. This is done using Tools - Options - Rules - Pass
Through.
