Active Synch Not letting me Delete Files

I attempted to copy two Word documents from a CD to my PDA. I don't
remember the specifics now, as I just have been living with the outcome.
Either the transfer from the CD went bad or I believe a newer list came out
and I wanted to delete the previous. In either case, I have 2 files that no
longer exist on my PC but still show under my file synch options on active
synch. I keep going here to delete them, have gone thru my PC via Windows
Explorer to Mobile Device, etc to delete and it never will let me delete
them. When I synch my PDA I always get the following message; "Cannot copy
"8ERDSOPositions01-20-04.doc." Make sure your mobile device has sufficient
memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and that you have permission
to copy this file type."

The files no longer exist. How can I eliminate this reference to them in my
active synch program? Any one have any advice?

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

I suggest you delete the repl.dat file of the profile/partnership name. The
location of this file in Win XP would be:

<drive letter>\Documents and Settings\<<user name>>\Application
Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\<<partnership name>>

When you connect and synchronize, ActiveSync will recreate this file and you
will be displayed the Combine or Replace dialog. Choose either option and
your problem should be solved.

Raj,

thanks for the response, I tried what you suggested and still did not solve
the problem. I have tried to delete the files every way I know how. Thru
windows explorer, etc. Still says they are write protected, read-only, my
memory is full or they are in use. They definately are not read-only, I have
gone into properties and made sure, my memory in either my PDA or my PC is
not full, as far as write protected, not to my knowledge and in use, not
that I am aware of. If I try to go thru Active Synch to resolve the problem
and go to the add/remove file synchronization window, I can highlight the
file hit the remove button and nothing happens. I have also tried via
windows explorer to either cut and paste the file to a removable disk or to
shred with no avail.

How can I get rid of these files??? By the way I am running Win98SE at the
moment.

Thanks,
John

Hello John,

* Did you try deleting the concerned file after performing a soft reset?
* Additionally did you restore from a backup file prior to this problem?

Try the following:

1. Move all the files from the Synchronized Files folder in to a new temp
folder.
2. Then proceed to delete the partnership -- disconnect the PPC from the
computer, in Activesync -> File -> Delete Partnership.
3. When you are prompted, click Yes to delete the Synchronized Files
folder.
4. Connect the device and follow the onscreen instructions to setup a new
partnership.
5. When the Combine or Replace dialog appears select combine.

Once partnership is established, move the items that you moved in #1 back to
the new Files sync folder.
