Running Vista Home Prem 32bit

Normally when working with Windows when you do something that opens a new
Window, that new Window opens in the forefront. However that is not so in my
case, the new Window opens behind and at times I don't even know the new
Window has opened because it is behind and hidden from view.

Is there a setting that you set to make the new Window open in front of all
others?

Control Panel>Folder Options>Browse Folders: check as desired.

Sometimes there is a setting of the programs which says always stay on top
of all other windows or always stay on background. You can check the
settings of the program whose window covered your new opened program or the
program you open newly. Use the settings menu, Window menu, settings
program, configuration file, ini file, right-click popup menu, reverse
engineering tools...

A beef I've had with MS-Windows since inception... MS-Windows can grab
focus or not and you have little control over it. I believe that the
XP Power Toys had a tweak for that but I don't recall one in Vista.

You can try google "Vista" and "focus" and "window". You will probably
need to narrow that search based on what comes back (e.g. "-camera")
to get to anything useful.

I tried to follow your instructions, but I couldn't figure out which option
to choose under browse folders to control where the new window opens. Could
you please advise which option to check?

I think he's referring to the open in same window vs. open in new
window choice, but that's not your problem :-)

Thanks for the suggestion, and apologies for taking so long to say so. I
always Google when I have a problem/question, but for some reason I never
thought of these type of websites. DOH!

I'm checking them out, but it just seems that there should be some simple
setting to accomplish this.

Very late to the party. I believe I once saw a fix for this. You might
want to try the Windows Annoyances site, I think I saw the fix there.
It involved editing the registry. It is a(nother) Vista "feature."
