Active X control gone?

I cannot load the windows update page. When I try, I get a scripting error
that says "Automation server can't create object".

Have I lost some Avtive X control? If so... how do I repair it?
Thanks!

What is your windows version?

suggest try:

IE option\security\custom\reset to medium

you may need to:

reregister the jscript
start\ Run type regsvr32 jscript.dll

re-install the Microsoft® Windows® Script latest version
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ist/webdev.asp

activex control for WU

Hi Jim,

I tried all the things you suggested. Un-installed iuctl.dll & iuengine.dll
and re-registered the jscript etc.

Running XP Pro SP2

Any other thoughts?

Thanks Jim.

Got any error numbers in the windowsupdate.log file ?

Did you install anything lately ?

Have you any firewall, webfilters, popup , antivirus scripting filters?

I would do a scan for spyware , virus etc.

you may want to look at ( it's for v4 but anyway may work)
When you are using the Windows Update Web site you receive a script error.

Hi Jim... Thanks for the attention to this.

Nothing newly installed. Have Adaware Professional running with their "Ad
Watch" module running. Windows SP2 Firewall

Ram Adaware & Spy Bot and Hijack and found no spyware unless it's something
new. That's what I thought at first too. Some new spyware or virus won't let
me get to update. Also run Norton personal.

The error I get is a script error...
Line: 72
Char: 3
Error: Automation server can't create object
Code: 0

Here are the last few line of the update file...

I have no knowledge of how to read this but maybe it might help you.

Thanks for your thoughts Jim. Hope I can resolve this.

Hi

Your log file looks fine.

Try this:

Start with disabling the "Ad Watch" thing in Adaware and everything
else of always-running modules in Adaware.

Also a utility called "BugOff" (does/(did close some unpatched security
holes in IE) can cause this. I guess similar application can also cause
this.

If the above didn't help, try this:

Re-register the Urlmon.dll file
Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 urlmon.dll in the Open box,
and then click OK.

and/or check your Internet Explorer Security Settings:

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Click the Internet Web content zone icon.
5. Click Custom Level.
6. In the Reset to box, click Medium.
7. Click Reset.
8. Click OK.

I have a similar problem after patching WinXP Pro with SP2.
(using WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe)

On:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/s...o/DXTidemo.htm
the "Filters" have no effect anymore, when ticking "Transitions" and
hitting the "Play" button I get the error msg:

---------------------------
A Runtime Error has occurred.
Do you wish to Debug?

Line: 484
Error: The specified module could not be found.

---------------------------

The debugger points me to the Line 484:
"imgObj.filters[0].apply();"

I did re-install the Microsoft® Windows® Script latest version and
reregister the jscript + the Urlmon.dll file.
The Security Level for the "Internet zone" is set to "Medium".

Being a web designer I'm more than desperate.
