Hi Dave,
Are you running any firewall software? From the way you describe, it appears the driver is getting installed correctly. I assume you are referring to Win XP here. However, some application appears to be blocking the connection. Did you perform any new updates or install new software prior to this issue? -- Regards, Raj Pillai Microsoft MVP - Mobile Devices http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj "Dave Smith" <> wrote in message news:ADDB2952-FB5C-4C2E-95B4-... > Since I last contacted you in early November I have not had any problems > connecting and sychronizing my iPAQ 3850. Hi Raj.
Yes, I am running XP Media Edition. I have Norton Internet Security installed, but I did confirm that it was still setup to allow ActiveSync to operate per the instructions that I received viathe Windows Mobile Site. However, just to be sure, I turned off all my security while I tried to connect but was still unable to do so. There was a Microsoft update about the same time, but I am not sure if it was before or after I started having the problem. I did try other USB ports on my PC and I am getting the message after I try to connect (without success) saying: "Your mobile device has not setup a connection with this computer. To setup a connection, start ActiveSync and follow the on-screen instructions." Which of course is what I had already done. I do find it strange that my Device Manager indicates that I do have a connection, but the Safe Hardware Removal dialog does not show the connection. I seem to remember that it did show up before I had this problem. Dave. "Raj Pillai" wrote: > Hi Dave, > > Are you running any firewall software? Hi Raj,
I noticed that, although I have rapimgr.exe allowed on my Norton Internet Security, this file does not exist in my Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync folder - or anywhere else on my desktop PC for that matter. Thinking it may have been deleted to protect my PC (as I believe it has been known to cause problems), I reinstalled ActiveSync 3.8. However, it is still not there. Could you tell me if rapimgr.exe is necessary for ActiveSync v3.8 as I know it was on earlier versions. Thank you. Dave. "Dave Smith" wrote: > Hi Raj. > > Yes, I am running XP Media Edition. Hi again Raj,
I thought I would give you a bit more information by sending you part of my WCESCOMM.LOG hoping that it will help solve my problem. Hi Dave,
Have you tried this - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264693 I would also suggest try connecting to another PC as sometimes the cable/connector might be faulty. That way, you can rule that possibility out. -- Regards, Raj Pillai Microsoft MVP - Mobile Devices http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj "Dave Smith" <> wrote in message news:73E89F8A-7C38-440F-9853-... > Hi Raj. > > Yes, I am running XP Media Edition. Hi Dave,
If memory serves me right, rapimgr.exe came with ActiveSync 4.x versions. So if you had installed one of those versions it might have got added to the list. -- Regards, Raj Pillai Microsoft MVP - Mobile Devices http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj "Dave Smith" <> wrote in message news:ADC626B0-DB54-41E9-BFDE-... > Hi Raj, > > I noticed that, although I have rapimgr.exe allowed on my Norton Internet > Security, this file does not exist in my Program Files\Microsoft > ActiveSync > folder - or anywhere else on my desktop PC for that matter. Hello Raj,
I tried that link without success. I decided to do a clean re-install of 3.8 so I deleted everything to do with Windows CE and ActiveSync except my document file. This still did not work. I noticed that ActiveSync kept saying that Com3 was available and I do not have a physical Com port available on my PC, but that made me think. My iPAQ cradle has dual ports in a Y formation - a USB and a 9-pin serial port. While cleaning up for Christmas I noticed that I had an IOGear USB PDA/Serial Adapter that I had purchased by error a few years ago. It had never been opened. If there was a problem with my USB link I thought this might work, although I didn't hold out too much hope. I plugged the 9-pin serial port from my iPAQ into the adapter and plugged the adapter's USB into the same USB port on my PC that I had been using before. It automatically installed the proper software and created COM4 which I pointed to in ActiveSync. Lo and behold it connected first time and asked me to setup a partnership. However, it would not let me use my original Device ID, which I would like to do. I created another ID to try it out and my contacts, calendar and notes did sync. but the files locked up. I believe this is all to do with not allowing me to use my original Device ID. The message read something like "The Device ID is in use, please create a new one". I tried removing it from the registry but that did not work. Do you know where ActiveSync is storing the original Device ID so that I can delete it? Other than that it has connected every time. Dave.
