activesync 4.0

i am running windows xp home edition and i have a ipaq hx2790 i am trying to
just get connection between the device and my personal computer. when i
installed activesync and then tried to plug in my device i get the message
that "my device has malfunfunctioned and windows does not recognize it for
assistance click this ballon."

i have already tried to uninstall activesync and then reinstall it
i have already tried to unplug my device from the usb port that its in and
put it in another port
i have already tried clean hard and soft resetting my device i am stumped
and cannot figure this problem out any help would be deeply appreciated

Hi Activesync doesn't seem to work with vista I had to download the Vista
Mobile Device Center;
