Two questions:

I have just bought an HP iPAQ rx 1950 pda and I also have a SPV 550
smartphone. My old PDA was a Dell AximX5. I sync with Outlook 2000 as I
have Office 2000 SBE. My operating system is XP Home. With my previous
version of Actviesync 3.7.1 I could sync both my Axim and my smartphone and
change them around one after the other. I had to upgrade activesync to 4.1
for the iPAQ. Now i can sync the iPAQ then the phone but if I change back
again to the pda it just says 'connecting' but doesn't connect. I have to
shut down the PC and restart in order to sync it again. Is there any way to
avoid this?

Also when my Axim died I had a back up of it made from activesync 3.7.1
which contained files that are nowhere else but I don't know where the back
up file was kept on the PC . How do I find them again? I can't restore
because the Axim is not working at all and lost all its files. Surely there
must be a way to find the back up and retrieve the files ?

Thanks!
Caroline

Can you still connect the phone after you've disconnected it? Are you
running any firewall software at all?

ActiveSync 4 does not contain any backup mechanism. Take a look at
STGViewer (http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=2024) to
extract the files. The backup files are located in the C:\Documents
and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles
directory IIRC.

I am running the XP firewall. I can connect the phone again and sync that
again after I've disconnected it but not the iPAQ after I have syncd the
phone.

Can you reconnect the iPAQ again after you've disconnected, if you
don't connect the phone first?

Weird... it seems like it's switching to the old engine, then won't
switch back. Can you try killing ActiveSync
(http://www.gpcarreon.com/?p=378) then restart it and see if it'll
sync after that.

Yes, and from the website you give here he uses a SPV C550 as his demo so
maybe that's the problem (which it wasn't on the previous version of
activesync). If that was the case would Microsoft produce a patch? I can't
get the program to download though, it keeps telling me the session is
invalid. I have never tried to download from a file sharing site so maybe I
am doing something wrong? Maybe it would work better on broadband I could
try at work later in the week, I am still on dial up at home (though not for
much longer)
