ActiveSync 4.1 & 3rd party scnc/charge cable problem

I have a new HP hx2795 Pocket PC and it worked fine with ActiveSync 4.0 that
came with it. No problems with the cradle OR a 3rd party sync/charge USB
cable. But, when I upgraded to ActiveSync 4.1, I can no longer get connected
at all with the sync/charge cable and the cradle will only connect if I turn
off USB charge capability. The sync/charge cable causes a USB error icon in
the task bar saying either "unknown device" or "windows mobile device".
Connection Settings says USB is available. Any ideas out there?

Ric

Hi,
Do you have many other USB devices plugged in? It could be that the draw on
the USB port is more than it's rated for. It's rated for 5 volts at .5
amps. This is 1/4 the amount that the AC adapter provides. Another change
could be turning on wireless or plugging in a peripheral or storage into the
2795 that's increasing the power draw.

Thanks Chris,
I've had that problem before, but not the case this time. I don't get the
"power exceeded" error but it is the same taskbar icon. No other USB's
plugged in at the time and the sync/charge cable does not work even when I
disable USB charging on the device. It just started when I installed
ActiveSync 4.1 so I was wondering since MS says USB works better and faster
with it, is it possible that the voltage wires are somehow in conflist or
now doing double duty ad signal carriers also and the 3rd party cable is not
rigged for it?

What I've heard from MS guys is that some of these cables don't connect
signals, let's say, exactly according to the specification. I'd be
surprised if this was really related to AS4.1, but I suppose that various
driver settings concerning power might have an effect. You might use a
multimeter and check the resistance (or just connectivity), of things like
the shield (the connector shell), etc. I'm betting that there's a
difference between the OEM cable and the aftermarket one you're trying to
use.
