ActiveSync 4.1 issue with Verizon XV6700

Hello - I'm having a problem with ActiveSync 4.1 on my Verizon XV6700 WM5
Pocket PC Edition. It was working before, now when I try to sync (via USB)
I get the following message:

Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and
try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync
Troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync Help on your computer.

When this happens, I can connect and explore my XV6700, but not sync. I
went through the complete online troubleshooter and tried everything
suggested, to no avail.

I'll explain my environment and why I think the problem is on the device,
not the PC/network:

I have two PCs to which I sync and I have two devices that I sync - the
XV6700 and a Treo 700w. The 700w works completely fine - syncing to both
PCs, but the XV6700 behaves as above on both PCs. I've re-installed
ActiveSync 4.1 on the computers, and it doesn't help the XV6700, but the
Treo 700w still syncs just fine.

This leads me to believe that the problem is not on the PC/USB/network but
is the device. If it were on the computer/network side, the 700w wouldn't
be able to sync. On the XV6700, I've deleted the profile connecting to my
work computer, but it still wouldn't sync there. I've still got a profile
for my computer at home, but I get the same error as above.

My guess is that a hard reset and re-install on the XV6700 would fix the
problem, but I'd like to avoid that, so I'm posting here in the hope that
someone might have a suggestion of something I could try on the device that
might enable me to sync again.

Thanks!

Mitchell

Did anything change on your device between the time it was working and
the time it stopped working (ie install a new program, make a change
to the settings, etc.)?

Hi, Rob - yes, I tried installing and then uninstalling Resco Explorer 2005.
The issues relating to installing/uninstalling, attempted re-install were my
own issues, probably not Resco's, but I guess I can't be sure. The point is
that I probably "messed up" something on the device that identifies it or
allows it to sync to AS 4.1 on the PC. So, it wasn't a spontaneous failure,
it probably was related to something I did. I can explore the device from
ActiveSync, though, so I can, if you can point me to something, see what's
on (or not on) the device....

Thanks.

Mitchell

Since it's new, can you try a hard reset and start over again? Also,
are you using ActiveSync 4.1?

I was trying to avoid the hard reset, as I do have some other applications
installed, but I think that's what I may have to do. I am using ActiveSync
4.1. Is there any other way to re-install or reset the ActiveSync software
on the device other than by hard reset?

Whoops - sorry, Rob - I didn't look at the thread carefully and I thought
you were replying to me, but it looks like you were replying to
Jeannie....sorry!

I'm using a brand new PPC-6700 from Sprint and having the same issues. I'm
able to explore the device but the sync fails. The cradle is connected
directly to the USB ports on the back of my computer and I am able to
successfully sync two other Windows Mobile devices (an HTC Typhoon and HTC
Tornado) with no problems. I have followed the advice seen in other forums
and removed ActiveSync as well as ripped out all of the Windows Mobile
device drivers, and did a hard reset of the device. I even tried setting it
up on a clean XP Pro SP2 box where it also failed. All firewalls are
currently disabled on the host computer, as are all antivirus software. The
clean box has no software on it that did not come with a full install disc
for SP2 and is a strict MS compliant box (i.e. every piece of hardware on
it, the drivers are MS certified and up-to-date).

Any advice?
