Can ActiveSync 4.2 be installed on Vista?

If not, does anyone know if Windows Mobile Device Center supports the
DesktopToDevice and DeviceToDesktop API's?

And if not, does anyone know of any other API's that can be used to transfer
text files between a mobile device and a Vista PC?

Hi,
WMDC replaces ActiveSync for Windows Vista. It is supposed to support the
same APIs that ActiveSync does.

CeCreateFile, CeWriteFile, and CeReadFile can be used to create a file
on the device and write and read it.

ActiveSync 4.5 does not support the API's, such as DesktopToDevice and
DeviceToDesktop, that were supported in earlier verisions. I'm sure WMDC
supports even less, since that is the trend. If CeCreateFile, CeWriteFile,
and CeReadFile are still supported I can use those instead.

DeviceToDesktop and DesktopToDevice are part of the old ADOCE
synchronisation and are no longer supported on recent versions of ActiveSync
along with devices from WM5.0 and above. Microsoft stopped supporting ADOCE
a few years ago, you can instead switch to SQLCE or another third-party
engine.
