ActiveSync 4./4.2b doesn't open main window

Hi,

I have been experiencing a strange issue with my activesync installation. I
have been using since yesterday (I bought my ppc yesterday), and it seemed to
been working just fine then.

The thing is that after hibernating the pc or rebooting it, the activesync
connection is made but I can't open the main window no more.

It just doesn't do anything when I double click the systray icon or the
start menu shortcut.

Viewing a processXP window, I can see that rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe are
running, and when I double-click the activesync icon wcesmgr.exe is called by
wcescomm.exe, but shutdowns immediately after.

I can however right-click the activesync icon and do any of the operations
listed, except opening the window.

As for activesync being sync'ing anything, it doesn't seem to be. :S

Help?

I meant 4.1/4.2b in the subject. By this I mean that this happened with 4.1
and continues with 4.2b

Hi,

Curious to know if the WCESMgr.exe window appears if the device is not
connected. Have you configured the firewall to allow this particular
application?

Thanks for the reply.

No, I can't open the window in my current profile whether I plug in the
device or not.

As for the firewall I currently use the Windows Firewall (wXP sp2 with all
patches), which has all the activesync entries stated. I also use Kaspersky
Anti-virus 6.0, but the problem still exists even if it is disabled.

Cheers

Hi,

I have yet to experience this kind of issue. Could you try the following
and see if the window appears:

1. Disconnect the device
2. Click Start -> Run and type:

wcesmgr.exe /show

3. Click Ok or <Enter>

If it doesn't display can you press Alt + Tab and check if it displays an
ActiveSync icon. If it does, then chances are the co-ordinates of the
window has got stored incorrectly.

Hello,

It doesn't do any difference. Like I mentioned earlier, wcesmgr starts and
then quickly terminates. As for the Alt+tab procedure, it doesn't appear, but
I guess that's because the window executable is wcesmgr.exe.

I'll try to kill some processes to see if there is one to blame. Any
additional suggestion is welcome, of course.

Cheers

I uninstalled/reinstalled activesync and the window now reappears. I'll check
back here if it goes back to the same behaviour.

Thanks

This is getting very strange. While activesync is working (i.e. window open
with sync in progress), it seems that the process has stopped while
synchronizing. It's been doing it for I dunno how long, and doesn't finish.
If I unplug my device, the activesync window closes (like it should), and if
I try to open it again, well, guess what: it doesn't.

It only opens if I reinstall activesync; it stops mid-process, and there we
go again. End of story: doesn't work, help?

:S

Hi,

Could you try reinstalling ActiveSync by following the steps given below:

1. Uninstall ActiveSync 4.x.
2. Go to Start -> Run and type:

%systemroot%\System32

Click Ok or hit <Enter>

3. Then manually delete the dynamic-link library Rapi.dll and ceutil.dll

4. Reinstall ActiveSync.

See if it helps.

Hi,

The files weren't there (probably correctly deleted).

Can you tell me what do I need to do to purge all evidence of earlier sync
trials, to test if there is something conflicting with the current install
(if there is any evidence).
