ActiveSync 4.x and two PCs

Hi - I have a new Windows Mobile v 5 PDA Phone and have now tried ActiveSync
4.1 and 4.2 beta. My older PDA Phone with AS v3.8 happily synchronised with
two PCs (home and work). Both are Outlook 2003, XP Pro SP2 with Exchange
Server.

4.1 and 4.2 beta now refuse to allow me to sync Contacts, Calendar or Tasks
with the second machine. I am not connecting directly to the Exchange Server
on either PC, but doing so through the Outlook profile.

Has this feature been removed? If so it seems a major mistake and a great
incovenience. If others have experienced the same, is there a solution or
workaround you can suggest? If MS are reading these lists, can someone fix
it please!

Thank you in advance for your help,

Andy

This feature is still there but it seems that AS 4.1 has an awful lot of
problems with USB connections. In my own experience, the USB problem emerged
after trying to sync with a second PC. After an eternity and a day, the
program asked me to click whether to take over from the PC to the Orange SPV
M600 (imate jamin), but then gave up.
I also found that when having an SD card in the mobile, AS 4.1 gave
problems, but at this stage cannot say whether these problems are/were
temporarily and can be reproduced. Very disappointing.

I experience the same problem with 4.x.
ActiveSync seems to only allow synchronization of an item type (e.g. Notes)
with one PC. One has to use "options" to deselect the first PC and select
the second.

Many users have a setup with an office and a home PC using the same Exchange
account. I cannot see a reason why AcitveSync makes synching a PDA with both
PCs so cumbersome.

Exactly, especially when it has been working relatively well with a v3.x
versions of ActiveSync. A major step backwards and one I hope MS will be
putting right very soon.

No, you can use an old smartphone with a new version of ActiveSync, but not
the other way around (because AS 4.x includes the communication components
from AS 3.8).

Just spend 5 hrs to activesync back to work,
Turned out one of the apps was causing grieve.
Activesync gives the very meaningfull error, synchronisation failed.
I use two PC's too, laptop and home PC

Why not have a list of apps/conduits like palm's hotsync and specify
within activesync what to do with each app/conduits
- Direction of sync ( to/from CE device, merge records)
- Enable/disable sync for this item.

Well it looks like media player was the one causing the grieve.
Is there a way to turn on logging in active sync?
Once the link is back up and running, then under options you can find
the list of apps/datasources that are used for sync.

Wopuld be handy if active sync would keep a local copy on the PC that
you could see when the sync process fails.
By switching the apps on one at a time you can get the sync process back
up and running.
