Depends on the topology of the PC network.
If you are connecting through a proxy, you can set the PC's ActiveSync to
"work", and then manually configure the devices HTTP proxy.
VPN's can be tricky since they typically can modify the routing table. You
may want to try switching the devices USB technology from RNDIS to serial
(USB to PC setting) or try Bluetooth.
If you are very technological, you can install something like "ethereal" and
watch what the TCP packets are doing.
