On top of all the other things that Microsoft has removed for no apparent
reason from what used to be a half decent program (like warning you before
the frigging system overwrites data you want to keep during device/PC data
conflicts), I now find that ActiveSync back up has also been taken off.
WHY? Is there some alternative way of backing up your PocketPC phone's
contents?

Hi Richard,

If you are connecting a WM 5.0 or a higher version mobile device, then the
Backup and Restore feature will not be available in ActiveSync. Unlike the
pre-WM 5.0 OS, the WM 5.0 has persistent memory storage so loss of battery
power will not erase your data on the device. Probably one of the reasons
why MS decided to do away with Backup for these devices.

If you require a backup application, then you can use third party software
such as

* PIM Backup (freeware) -
http://www.freewareppc.com/database/pimbackup.shtml

* SPB Backup - http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/

* Sprite Backup - http://www.spritesoftware.com/backup.php
