I've just got a new PC with WinXP and have installed
Outlook 2000 and ActiveSync 3.7.1. Outlook installed OK
and works with both an MSExchange server and pop3 server.
ActiveSync works for the pop3 server account but when
tried with the MSExchange server account I get the
following error.
"Synchronization cannot start because the desktop
computer cannot access necessary information. Restart
this desktop computer and synchronize again.If the
problem persists and this desktop computer is running
Mircosoft Outlook 2000, or open Outlook 2000 click help
and then click Detect and Repair."
I have looked through the help articles and the only one
I found that was similar required the reinstallation of
the mapi32.dll file. I replaced that DLL as instructed
but it didn't fix the problem.
Below are the contents of the mcesmgr.log and
outstore.log files which show that ActiveSync is not able
to start the Exchange server.
