ActiveSync Connection Settings issue

Sorry for the long post, but I think it's necessary to build the history of
the problem ...

I've just built a new computer (Intel Duo w/WXP all up to date) and have
been in the process of getting software back on. I've been fighting with my
activesync, I tried AS 4.2 after I updated my ipaq 4700 to WM5. After having
sync issues at work, I decided to revert back to pocket pc 2003 and AS 3.8,
I've been running in that configuration for years on my previous computer.

So now I have AS 3.8. It's syncing fine with the cradle but I need to it
sync via bluetooth at home (as I've previously done for years). I was unable
to get it to work using BT so I decided to re-install AS 3.8.

Well, that seemed to have made the problem worse. When I try to enter into
the Connection Settings in ActiveSync 3.8, nothing happens! That is, the
connections settings window does not appear. What's more, my computer won't
shutdown when I get into this mode. First, the end-task dialog pops up
asking me to kill wcescomm.exe. After I kill it, the computer still will not
shutdown. If I do not try the connection settings in activesync, I can
shutdown normally.

I've tried re-installing AS 3.8 twice already to no avail. I also tried the
registry hack to re-assign the window coordinates that I found in a previous
post, that did not help either.

Most frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestions?

this is the issue.

Gary, Chris,

I am experienceing the exact same issue using
- first AS 4.5 latest version
- Then uninstalled 4.5 and installed 4.2 that was on my Treo 700wx disk
- then uninstalled and reinstalled 4.2

Did above work?

Thanks,
Frank
