ActiveSync doesn't connect with iPaq

Hi,
I'm a somewhat new iPaq user, and am setting up a new laptop to use with my
iPaq 2215. I'm running ActiveSync 3.7.1.

I had no problem setting up ActiveSync on my old laptop and my desktop, but
on the new laptop (a Sony Vaio VGN-S150), AS can't connect to the iPaq. Now
the iPaq is seen on the USB port (you get the connect/disconnect sounds).
But when you hook it up, AS runs, but says "Connecting..." forever.
Meanwhile, if you check the AS screen on the iPaq, it shows an error. It
simply says: "Unable to connect. Verify your dialup or proxy settings are
correct, and try again." This happens regardless of whether I use my cradle
or sync cable. After AS fails to work on the new laptop, I can move the
iPaq directly over to one of my other machines and it works fine.

To be sure, I've also uninstalled AS 3.7.1, removed the USB devices for the
iPaq, re-installed AS, and went through the process for establishing a new
connection. No go!

Has anyone seen this type of behavior before, and what is the fix?

thanks,
Jonathan

Hi,
Do you have a firewall installed? This can prevent ActiveSync from
connecting to the Pocket PC.

I had similar behaviour with Windows2000 Server. MS claims that ActiveSync
is not supported on server platforms. With WindowsXP I did not face similar
problems yet.

Bingo!
That turned out to be it. I had no idea the firewall (Norton Internet
Security in this case) would be a factor!

thanks a ton!
