Actually it's the other way round:

The laptop gets the IP address from the mobile device (the laptop is the
dhcp client)!

Yes, that's what we've been seeing all along. The *network adapter* (RNDIS,
which is what the WM device looks like to the USB driver), appearing and
being bound is causing some element of the Intel software to decide that the
wireless connection should be broken. This is similar to what happens on
some VPN software when you plug in the device, as it assumes that, hey,
there's a security risk here; disconnect from the secure network.

I'll forward your information to the AS guys.

Thanks for the details,
Paul T.

You didnt say if the PC card is a Mini PCI or a PC Card. Suggestion, if it
doesnt appear to be an easy fix, drop the Intel Card, go get the LinkSys PC
card with Speedboost, then you canm run the WidComm Stack (Im pretty sure
they use Widcomm, ) and hopefully you wont have to look back.
I should have asked first, are you running the MS Bkuetooth Stack or a 3rd
party bundled with Intel?
MS Bluetooth has ussually not been loved by the BT community, per say. You
also may want to bounce this over to alt.cellular.bluetooth also

I've got exactly the same problem with an HP Laptop and the IPW2200 chipset.

I'm also experienceing the same issue after upgrading my Samsung i730 to WM5.
Below is a list of my setup:

Samsung i730 (WM5)
HP nc8230
Winodws XP SP2 (All critical updates)
Activesync 4.1
Intel Pro 2200 BG (Driver 9.0.3.9)
Linksys WRT54GS (v4.70.6)
WPA-PSK (TKIP)
Windows XP Firewall
Symantec Antivirus CE 10.0.2.2000 (All updates)
I should also note that I am using the built in ZeroConf configuration and
not Intel's ProSet.

Thanks for listening.

Thanks for the details. I've forwarded them to the AS team.

If you want to try a couple of things, here are two that I can suggest:

1. Try ActiveSync 4.2beta, which you can download from
www.microsoft.com/mobile (open the page and search for "beta").

2. Uninstall Symantec Antivirus and reboot. Obviously, since this leaves
you exposed until you reinstall, don't do it if your PC is especially
vulnerable to infection, but it would be useful to help verify that this is
Intel's driver at fault and not another Symantec issue.

Thanks,
Paul T.

Someone else here may know, but I don't even have a device that exhibits
this problem (or uses this adapter), so I don't know. I'm just acting as a
go-between with the AS team. You can try contacting Intel support or
support for the PC's vendor, of course.
