Hi,
You synchronize data, only if a partnership is formed. When a partnership is
formed between the device and the computer, it stores a small amount of
information on both so that when connected the next time, it is able to
recognize each other.
When your device is hard reset the information stored on the device is lost
and therefore when it is connected, the desktop is unable to recognize the
earlier established partnership and prompts you to setup a new one.
However, the old partnership name is still available on your desktop, it is
reserved since ActiveSync assumes the device is still available (with the
partnership information) but has not been connected. And therefore you will
not be able to use it until you delete this partnership information from the
desktop.
To delete and recreate the partnership --
1. Disconnect the PPC from the computer.
2. In Activesync -> File -> Delete Partnership/ Mobile Device. (depending
on the version of ActiveSync you are using)
3. Connect the device and follow the onscreen instructions to setup a new
partnership.
If you are using an ActiveSync 3.x version, then even if you delete the
partnership, it might prompt you to enter a unique name. For such a
scenario refer -
