ActiveSync Partenrships

Hi all,

I amnot very familiar with ActiveSync or its terminology, so I will
try to explain my problem as best as I can.

When I got my Pocket PC ActiveSync created a name for the mobile
device (is this a partnership?). An icon appeared on my desktop.
Every time that I have the PDA connected to the PC and started
Windows, ActiveSync would start and say something like "Connecting
to Mobile_001" where Mobile_001 was the name I gave when
setting up the partnership.

I then had to reset the PDA, thus losing all information. When I had
it functioning again I connected it to the PC, but ActiveSync did not
recognize the Mobile_001 name and insisted that I create a new one.
After I could not get this to work, or to delete the previous
partnership,
I simply proceeded to create a new one. That done, all worked fine.
Since then I have had to reset the PDA another time and had to go
through the same -setup new partnership- procedure. Today I had to
reset the PDA again, but this time I would like to ask here what I need
to do so that ActiveSync will continue using the existing partnership,
or
at least a way of deleting the previous one that I will no longer use.

Any suggestions/recommendations are welcomed.

Thank you for you time in helping me with this. :-)
Saga

Hi,

You synchronize data, only if a partnership is formed. When a partnership is
formed between the device and the computer, it stores a small amount of
information on both so that when connected the next time, it is able to
recognize each other.

When your device is hard reset the information stored on the device is lost
and therefore when it is connected, the desktop is unable to recognize the
earlier established partnership and prompts you to setup a new one.
However, the old partnership name is still available on your desktop, it is
reserved since ActiveSync assumes the device is still available (with the
partnership information) but has not been connected. And therefore you will
not be able to use it until you delete this partnership information from the
desktop.

To delete and recreate the partnership --

1. Disconnect the PPC from the computer.
2. In Activesync -> File -> Delete Partnership/ Mobile Device. (depending
on the version of ActiveSync you are using)
3. Connect the device and follow the onscreen instructions to setup a new
partnership.

If you are using an ActiveSync 3.x version, then even if you delete the
partnership, it might prompt you to enter a unique name. For such a
scenario refer - http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj/PartnershipName.html
